Reading
Read the following passage carefully and answer the questions that follow :
Nature has a holy plan, said William Wordsworth. Night follows the day; and winter follows autumn. When spring comes it will be pleasant everywhere, nature putting on new garb: trees blooming swarms of bees and butterflies hopping from flower to flower and collecting nectar. When once the spring goes, and winter comes, there cannot be this riot of colours and the joy of beauty, certainly not for months to come. If the bee misses this spring and fails to collect the nectar, its larder should remain empty.
So, we must make hay while the sun shines. When the sky is overcast with clouds or when there is heavy downpour, we cannot make hay. We can make it only when there is sunshine. We can strike only when the iron is hot. When the iron becomes cold, there is no use of striking it, however hard it may be. So, we must do things at the right time. If once we postpone, only regrets will remain.
To delay in work is the thief of the time. A little delay does not matter, we tell ourselves and postpone. Finally it becomes our trait and we fail miserably in life. As students we cannot pass well in our examination, as freshers we fail to secure proper placement in life and as adults we leg behind in the race of life and finally we grow weak and old.
-

2. Read the following passage carefully and answer the questions that follow :
Mr. Sunday Nana, his wife and four small children live in Koko Village, Nigeria. The village is like any other African village – picturesque, colourful and noisy. The Nana family’s house, too, is the same as all the other houses in the village, with mud walls and a rusting corrugated iron roof, and with children and chickens sharing the compound.
There is one difference, however. Outside Mr. Nana’s front are three large empty metal drums, the bright red paint now flaking away, but the skull and cross bones symbol is clearly visible on each. And in a clearing 200 m away from the village, next to a stream that the villagers get their drinking water from, is an enormous pyramid of identical drums, reaching to the sky. Some of them are badly corroded, their slimy contents of various colours – grey, dark green, bright orange, etc. – leaking out, down, on to the baked African earth and into the stream. Some have fallen down and rolled or been rolled by playful children – into the bush. Some are smoking in the midday heat. Some are swelling, as if their contents are bursting to get out. Some have already burst.

Subject: Views on the Ban on Currency Notes
Dear Editor,
I am writing to express my views on the Government of India’s decision to ban high-value currency notes. While the move aims to curb black money and corruption, it caused significant inconvenience to common citizens. Many faced long queues at banks and ATMs. However, in the long run, it has promoted digital payments and transparency. I believe such steps are necessary for a cleaner economy.
Yours sincerely,
Subhash
