प्रश्न 1 (i)

(Dishonoured Bills Receivable)
(Payment of Bills Receivable)
(Endorsement of Bills Receivable)
(Discounting of Bills Receivable)

(Dishonoured Bills Receivable)

Write four examples of Distribution Overhead.

(Warehouse Rent)
(Transportation Expenses)
(Packing Expenses)
(Sales Commission)

Write the name of the manufacturer of Tally software.

Write the use of ‘In Box’ in E-mail software.

Purchases Rs. 1,00,000, Opening Stock Rs. 25,000, Closing Stock Rs. 45,000, Wages Rs. 10,000, Furniture purchased Rs. 5,000, Loss on cost 10%. Calculate gross loss and amount of sales.

Write the names of the books kept for the purpose of finding basic information in non-trading concerns.

(Cash Book)
(Income and Expenditure Account)
(Receipts and Payments Account)
(Balance Sheet)

(Income and Expenditure Account):

From the following information, calculate opening capital fund of ‘Mishra Welfare Centre’ :

Income & Expenditure Account

Expenses Rs. Income Rs.
To Salary (including outstanding salaries Rs. 1,000) 5,000 By Rent (including one month received in advance of last year) 2,000
To Advertisement 6,000 By Subscription 8,000
To Depreciation (10% on furniture) 2,000 By Interest (10% on fixed deposit) 4,000
To Surplus 21,000
Total 34,000 Total 34,000

Opening cash balance Rs. 22,000.

Solution:

To calculate opening capital fund, we use the formula:

Opening Capital Fund = Opening Cash Balance + Surplus

Given: Opening Cash Balance = Rs. 22,000; Surplus = Rs. 21,000

Opening Capital Fund = 22,000 + 21,000 = Rs. 43,000

With the help of the following items calculate amount of postage to be shown in Income and Expenditure Account :

Particulars Rs.
Year 2008-09 Postage stamps purchased 2,500
1st April, 2008 outstanding for Postage stamps 200
1st April, 2008 paid in Advance for Postage stamps 100
31st March, 2009 outstanding for Postage stamps 400
31st March, 2009 paid in Advance for Postage stamps 300

Solution:

Amount of postage to be shown in Income and Expenditure Account is calculated as:

Postage consumed = Opening outstanding + Purchases - Opening advance + Closing outstanding - Closing advance

Or alternatively:

Postage consumed = Purchases + (Opening outstanding - Opening advance) - (Closing outstanding - Closing advance)

Here:

  • Opening outstanding = Rs. 200
  • Opening advance = Rs. 100
  • Purchases = Rs. 2,500
  • Closing outstanding = Rs. 400
  • Closing advance = Rs. 300

Postage consumed = 200 + 2,500 - 100 + 400 - 300 = Rs. 2,700

Thus, the amount to be shown in Income and Expenditure Account is Rs. 2,700.

Write the following items in Income & Expenditure Account and in Balance Sheet :

Building Fund Rs. 1,00,000
Expenses on Building Rs. 80,000
Sports Fund Rs. 80,000
Expenses on Sports Rs. 85,000

Solution:

Solution:

6.

A company received amount per share Rs. 4 on application, Rs. 6 on allotment (including premium) and Rs. 2 on final call from public on its 2,00,000 shares of Rs. 10 each. It used up additional amount up to issued price. With the help of the following table, calculate the adjustment of application money on various calls:

Category Shares Applied Shares Allotted
First 0,000
Second 1,20,000 1,00,000
Third 3,20,000 1,00,000
Total 4,50,000 2,00,000

Solution:

Total shares allotted = 2,00,000. Application money received = 4,50,000 × Rs. 4 = Rs. 18,00,000. Application money required for allotted shares = 2,00,000 × Rs. 4 = Rs. 8,00,000. Excess application money = Rs. 18,00,000 – Rs. 8,00,000 = Rs. 10,00,000. This excess is adjusted towards allotment and calls.

Allotment money due (including premium) = 2,00,000 × Rs. 6 = Rs. 12,00,000. Excess application money of Rs. 10,00,000 is adjusted, so net allotment due = Rs. 2,00,000. Final call due = 2,00,000 × Rs. 2 = Rs. 4,00,000. No further adjustment needed.

(Creditors Account)

Prepare statement of profit & loss for the year ending 31st March, 2009 from the following information :

  1. On 1st April, 2008 capital balance Rs. 1,00,000
  2. On 31st March, 2009 capital balance Rs. 1,30,000
  3. During the year drawings were Rs. 1,000 per month
  4. After selling personal shares of Rs. 30,000 the amount was introduced in trade
  5. The profit earned Rs. 5,000 on assets sold
  6. Interest on capital was Rs. 10,000 and interest on drawing was Rs. 1,000.

Solution:

Statement of Profit & Loss for the year ending 31st March, 2009

Particulars Amount (Rs.)
Closing Capital (31st March, 2009) 1,30,000
Add: Drawings (Rs. 1,000 × 12 months) 12,000
Less: Additional Capital Introduced (Sale of personal shares) (30,000)
Less: Profit on Sale of Assets (already included in profit) (5,000)
Less: Interest on Capital (10,000)
Add: Interest on Drawings 1,000
Adjusted Closing Capital 98,000
Less: Opening Capital (1st April, 2008) (1,00,000)
Net Profit for the year (-2,000) i.e., Loss of Rs. 2,000

Alternative Method (Using Capital Comparison):

Net Profit = Closing Capital + Drawings - Additional Capital - Opening Capital

= 1,30,000 + 12,000 - 30,000 - 1,00,000 = Rs. 12,000

Then adjust for interest on capital and drawings:

Adjusted Profit = 12,000 - 10,000 (Interest on Capital) + 1,000 (Interest on Drawings) = Rs. 3,000

Then deduct profit on sale of assets (Rs. 5,000) as it is not operating profit: 3,000 - 5,000 = Loss of Rs. 2,000

Kala Ltd. forfeited 1,000 equity shares of Rs. 10 each on which Rs. 8 per share were called. On these shares, Rs. 2 per share was outstanding of the first call. Shares were reissued as follows:

  • 600 shares @ Rs. 11 per share as fully paid up
  • 400 shares @ Rs. 9 per share [as Rs. 8 per share paid up].

Give necessary Journal entries from the above transactions. (3 marks)

Solution:

Step 1: Forfeiture of shares
Amount called per share = Rs. 8
Amount unpaid per share (first call) = Rs. 2
Amount received per share = Rs. 8 – Rs. 2 = Rs. 6
Total shares forfeited = 1,000
Total amount received = 1,000 × Rs. 6 = Rs. 6,000
Total called-up capital = 1,000 × Rs. 8 = Rs. 8,000
Calls in arrears = 1,000 × Rs. 2 = Rs. 2,000

Journal Entry:

Date Particulars L.F. Dr. (Rs.) Cr. (Rs.)
Share Capital A/c (1,000 × Rs. 8) Dr. 8,000
To Calls in Arrears A/c (1,000 × Rs. 2) 2,000
To Share Forfeiture A/c (1,000 × Rs. 6) 6,000
(Being forfeiture of 1,000 shares for non-payment of first call)

Step 2: Reissue of 600 shares @ Rs. 11 each as fully paid up
Amount received = 600 × Rs. 11 = Rs. 6,600
Called-up value = 600 × Rs. 8 = Rs. 4,800
Securities Premium = 600 × (Rs. 11 – Rs. 8) = 600 × Rs. 3 = Rs. 1,800
Transfer from Share Forfeiture = Rs. 4,800 (since fully paid, no discount)

Journal Entry:

Date Particulars L.F. Dr. (Rs.) Cr. (Rs.)
Bank A/c Dr. 6,600
To Share Capital A/c (600 × Rs. 8) 4,800
To Securities Premium A/c 1,800
(Being reissue of 600 shares @ Rs. 11 each as fully paid up)

Step 3: Reissue of 400 shares @ Rs. 9 each as Rs. 8 per share paid up
Amount received = 400 × Rs. 9 = Rs. 3,600
Called-up value = 400 × Rs. 8 = Rs. 3,200
Securities Premium = 400 × (Rs. 9 – Rs. 8) = 400 × Rs. 1 = Rs. 400
Transfer from Share Forfeiture = Rs. 3,200 (since paid-up value equals called-up value)

Journal Entry:

Date Particulars L.F. Dr. (Rs.) Cr. (Rs.)
Bank A/c Dr. 3,600
To Share Capital A/c (400 × Rs. 8) 3,200
To Securities Premium A/c 400
(Being reissue of 400 shares @ Rs. 9 each as Rs. 8 paid up)

Step 4: Transfer of Share Forfeiture balance
Total Share Forfeiture A/c = Rs. 6,000
Amount transferred to Capital Reserve = Rs. 6,000 – (Rs. 4,800 + Rs. 3,200) = Rs. 6,000 – Rs. 8,000 = –Rs. 2,000 (deficit, but since reissue at premium, no loss; actually, the forfeiture amount is fully utilized: Rs. 4,800 for 600 shares and Rs. 3,200 for 400 shares = Rs. 8,000, but we only have Rs. 6,000, so the deficit is covered by the premium received. However, in standard accounting, the forfeiture amount is transferred to Capital Reserve only if there is a surplus. Here, the total forfeiture is Rs. 6,000, and the amount needed to write off the discount (if any) is zero, so the entire Rs. 6,000 is transferred to Capital Reserve. But note: the reissue entries already credit Share Capital at called-up value, so no discount is involved. The forfeiture amount is transferred to Capital Reserve as follows:

Bhawani Ltd. redeemed 1,000 — 8% preference shares of Rs. 100 each at 20% premium by conversion into new equity shares of Rs. 10 each including 25% premium. Make necessary Journal entries. (3 marks)

Solution:

Step 1: Calculate redemption amount
Face value of preference shares = 1,000 × Rs. 100 = Rs. 1,00,000
Premium on redemption = 20% of Rs. 1,00,000 = Rs. 20,000
Total redemption amount = Rs. 1,00,000 + Rs. 20,000 = Rs. 1,20,000

Step 2: Calculate number of equity shares to be issued
Issue price per equity share = Rs. 10 + 25% premium = Rs. 10 + Rs. 2.50 = Rs. 12.50
Number of equity shares = Rs. 1,20,000 / Rs. 12.50 = 9,600 shares

SS—30-2—Account. II

A company manufactures two types of goods X and Y. Calculate separately prime cost, works cost, cost of production, total cost and sales value of products from the following information, while profit on total cost is 0% :

Direct material Rs. 2,10,000, Wages Rs. 90,000, Stores Expenses (Relating to indirect material) Rs. 1,05,000, Machine Expenses Rs. 22,000, Depreciation on Machine Rs. 8,000, Labour Welfare Rs. 57,000, General Factory Expenses Rs. 40,000, Administration Expenses Rs. 32,000 and Advertisement Expenses Rs. 48,000.

Office & Selling Expenses are to be apportioned on the basis of units.

Make the distribution of the above expenses on the following basis :

Particulars Product X Product Y
Manufactured units 300 500
Material expenses per unit 2 3
Labour expenses per unit 3 2
Machine utilization per unit 2 1

Solution:

Step 1: Calculate Prime Cost

Prime Cost = Direct Material + Direct Wages

Total Direct Material = Rs. 2,10,000
Total Wages = Rs. 90,000
Total Prime Cost = Rs. 3,00,000

Step 2: Apportion Direct Material and Wages to Products

Direct Material:
Product X: 300 units × Rs. 2 = Rs. 600
Product Y: 500 units × Rs. 3 = Rs. 1,500
Total = Rs. 2,100 (Note: The given total is Rs. 2,10,000, so per unit cost is scaled accordingly. Assuming the per unit figures are in Rs. 100s? Let's use the given total.)

Actually, the per unit expenses are given as small numbers, but total is large. So we treat them as ratios.

Ratio of material expenses: X:Y = (300×2):(500×3) = 600:1500 = 2:5
X's share = (2/7) × 2,10,000 = Rs. 60,000
Y's share = (5/7) × 2,10,000 = Rs. 1,50,000

Wages:
Ratio: X:Y = (300×3):(500×2) = 900:1000 = 9:10
X's share = (9/19) × 90,000 = Rs. 42,631.58 (approx)
Y's share = (10/19) × 90,000 = Rs. 47,368.42 (approx)

Step 3: Calculate Works Cost

Works Cost = Prime Cost + Factory Overheads

Factory Overheads = Stores Expenses + Machine Expenses + Depreciation on Machine + Labour Welfare + General Factory Expenses

= 1,05,000 + 22,000 + 8,000 + 57,000 + 40,000 = Rs. 2,32,000

Apportion factory overheads on machine utilization basis:

Machine hours: X = 300×2 = 600, Y = 500×1 = 500, Total = 1100
X's share = (600/1100) × 2,32,000 = Rs. 1,26,545.45
Y's share = (500/1100) × 2,32,000 = Rs. 1,05,454.55

Works Cost:
X = 60,000 + 42,631.58 + 1,26,545.45 = Rs. 2,29,177.03
Y = 1,50,000 + 47,368.42 + 1,05,454.55 = Rs. 3,02,823.00 (approx)

Step 4: Cost of Production

Cost of Production = Works Cost + Administration Expenses

Administration Expenses = Rs. 32,000, apportioned on unit basis (300:500 = 3:5)
X's share = (3/8) × 32,000 = Rs. 12,000
Y's share = (5/8) × 32,000 = Rs. 20,000

Cost of Production:
X = 2,29,177.03 + 12,000 = Rs. 2,41,177.03
Y = 3,02,823.00 + 20,000 = Rs. 3,22,823.00

Step 5: Total Cost

Total Cost = Cost of Production + Selling & Distribution Overheads

Selling Overheads = Advertisement Expenses = Rs. 48,000, apportioned on unit basis (3:5)
X's share = (3/8) × 48,000 = Rs. 18,000
Y's share = (5/8) × 48,000 = Rs. 30,000

Total Cost:
X = 2,41,177.03 + 18,000 = Rs. 2,59,177.03
Y = 3,22,823.00 + 30,000 = Rs. 3,52,823.00

Step 6: Sales Value (Profit 0% on total cost)

Sales Value = Total Cost (since profit is 0%)

X = Rs. 2,59,177.03
Y = Rs. 3,52,823.00

(Explanation):

Additional Information:

  • The value of building was Rs. 30,000 and value of furniture was Rs. 5,000 as on 1st January, 2009.
  • On 31st December, 2009, Salary Rs. 500 and Subscriptions Rs. 500 were outstanding.
  • Surplus is Rs. 500.

Question:

Prepare Opening and Closing Balance Sheet.

Solution

Step 1: Prepare Opening Balance Sheet as on 1st January, 2009

From the information given:

  • Building: Rs. 30,000
  • Furniture: Rs. 5,000
  • Cash in hand (Balance b/d from Receipts & Payments): Rs. 500
  • Subscription outstanding for 2008: Rs. 2,000 (from Receipts & Payments, 2008 subscription received in 2009 was Rs. 2,000, but this is already received, so no outstanding at start? Actually, the opening balance sheet should include assets and liabilities. The Receipts & Payments shows a balance b/d of Rs. 500, which is cash. The building and furniture are given. There is no mention of any liability at start. So opening balance sheet will have assets: Building Rs. 30,000, Furniture Rs. 5,000, Cash Rs. 500. Total assets = Rs. 35,500. This will be matched by Capital Fund (or General Fund) as liability.
Opening Balance Sheet as on 1st January, 2009
Liabilities Amount (Rs.) Assets Amount (Rs.)
Capital Fund (Balancing figure) 35,500 Building 30,000
Furniture 5,000
Cash in hand 500
Total 35,500 Total 35,500
Step 2: Prepare Income and Expenditure Account for the year ended 31st December, 2009

First, calculate the surplus given as Rs. 500. We need to find the income and expenses from the Receipts & Payments and adjustments.

Income:

  • Subscription for 2009: Received Rs. 5,000 + Outstanding Rs. 500 = Rs. 5,500
  • Interest on Fixed Deposit: Rs. 4,000 (given, 8% on fixed deposit, so fixed deposit amount = 4,000/0.08 = Rs. 50,000, but not needed for balance sheet directly)
  • Profit on sale of furniture: Furniture sold for Rs. 3,000, cost Rs. 5,000, so loss = Rs. 2,000 (this is an expense, not income)

Expenses:

  • Salary: Paid Rs. 3,000 + Outstanding Rs. 500 = Rs. 3,500
  • Sports Expenses: Rs. 3,000
  • Repair: Rs. 1,000
  • Books Purchase: Rs. 5,000 (this is capital expenditure? Actually, books are assets, but in non-profit, books are often treated as revenue expense. However, given the context, we treat as expense unless specified otherwise. But the surplus is given, so we need to match.)
  • Sundry Expenses: Rs. 2,000
  • Loss on sale of furniture: Rs. 2,000

Total Expenses = 3,500 + 3,000 + 1,000 + 5,000 + 2,000 + 2,000 = Rs. 16,500

Total Income = Subscription 5,500 + Interest 4,000 = Rs. 9,500

Surplus = Income - Expenses = 9,500 - 16,500 = -7,000 (deficit). But given surplus is Rs. 500, this indicates that Books Purchase might be capital expenditure. Let's treat Books Purchase as asset addition.

If Books Purchase is treated as asset (capital), then expenses = 3,500 + 3,000 + 1,000 + 2,000 + 2,000 = Rs. 11,500. Surplus = 9,500 - 11,500 = -2,000 (still deficit). Not matching.

Alternatively, the surplus of Rs. 500 is given, so we can work backwards. The Receipts & Payments shows total receipts Rs. 26,500 and payments Rs. 26,500. The surplus is the excess of income over expenditure. We need to prepare the Income & Expenditure Account using the given surplus.

Let's list all items:

  • Subscription for 2009: Received 5,000 + Outstanding 500 = 5,500
  • Interest: 4,000
  • Salary: Paid 3,000 + Outstanding 500 = 3,500
  • Sports Expenses: 3,000
  • Repair: 1,000
  • Sundry Expenses: 2,000
  • Loss on sale of furniture: 2,000
  • Books Purchase: 5,000 (if treated as revenue, then expense; if capital, then asset)

Given surplus is Rs. 500, so Income - Expenditure = 500.

Income = 5,500 + 4,000 = 9,500. So Expenditure = 9,500 - 500 = 9,000.

Expenditure items (excluding Books Purchase if capital): 3,500 + 3,000 + 1,000 + 2,000 + 2,000 = 11,500. This is more than 9,000. So we need to adjust. Possibly Books Purchase is capital, and also some items might be prepaid or something. But the given data is limited.

Alternatively, the surplus of Rs. 500 might be the net surplus after considering all, and the Receipts & Payments includes opening and closing balances. Let's compute the closing balance sheet directly.

Step 3: Prepare Closing Balance Sheet as on 31st December, 2009

Assets:

  • Building: Rs. 30,000 (no change mentioned)
  • Furniture: Opening Rs. 5,000 - Sold (cost Rs. 5,000) = 0. But sold for Rs. 3,000, so no furniture left? Possibly new furniture not bought. So furniture = 0.
  • Books: Purchased Rs. 5,000 (asset)
  • Fixed Deposit: From interest 8% on fixed deposit, interest Rs. 4,000, so FD = 4,000/0.08 = Rs. 50,000. This is an asset.
  • Cash in hand: Closing balance from Receipts & Payments = Rs. 2,500
  • Subscription outstanding: Rs. 500
  • Salary outstanding: Rs. 500 (liability)

Liabilities:

  • Capital Fund: Opening Rs. 35,500 + Surplus Rs. 500 = Rs. 36,000
  • Outstanding Salary: Rs. 500

Total Assets = Building 30,000 + Furniture 0 + Books 5,000 + FD 50,000 + Cash 2,500 + Subscription O/S 500 = Rs. 88,000

Total Liabilities = Capital Fund 36,000 + Outstanding Salary 500 = Rs. 36,500

This does not balance. There is a huge difference. So we need to reconsider.

Actually, the fixed deposit might be part of the opening balance? Not given. The interest received is Rs. 4,000, so FD must exist. But the opening balance sheet had only building, furniture, and cash. So FD must have been created during the year? Possibly from surplus? But the surplus is only Rs. 500.

Given the complexity and limited data, the standard solution for such problems typically involves:

  • Opening Balance Sheet: Assets: Building 30,000, Furniture 5,000, Cash 500; Liabilities: Capital Fund 35,500.
  • Income & Expenditure: Subscription 5,500 + Interest 4,000 = 9,500; Expenses: Salary 3,500, Sports 3,000, Repair 1,000, Sundry 2,000, Loss on furniture 2,000 = 11,500; Deficit = 2,000. But given surplus 500, so there is inconsistency. Possibly the surplus is after considering other items like books as asset.

Given the instructions, we will present a logical solution based on typical accounting treatment for non-profit organizations.

Final Answer:
