अथवा

भारत में ब्रिटिश औद्योगीकरण के प्रभाव को विस्तार से समझाइये ।

Discuss the communalism as a barrier of National Integration. 6

OR

Explain in detail the impact of British Industrialization in India. 6

Solution (Communalism as a barrier): Communalism refers to the belief that people belonging to the same religion share common secular interests. It acts as a barrier to national integration by creating divisions based on religion, fostering mistrust, and leading to conflicts. It undermines the secular fabric of the nation, hinders social harmony, and weakens the sense of shared citizenship. Communal violence and political exploitation of religious identities further deepen these divides, making national unity difficult.

OR

Solution (Impact of British Industrialization): British industrialization in India had a profound impact. It led to the deindustrialization of traditional Indian industries like textiles, as machine-made goods from Britain flooded the market. This caused widespread unemployment and poverty among artisans. The British focused on raw material extraction for their industries, leading to a colonial economy. Railways and telegraphs were introduced primarily for administrative and economic exploitation. Overall, it transformed India into a supplier of raw materials and a market for British goods, stunting indigenous industrial growth.

OR

What is Panchayati Raj ? Explain its three-stage system. 6

Solution (Sanskritization): Sanskritization, a concept by M.N. Srinivas, refers to the process where lower castes adopt the customs, rituals, and practices of upper castes (especially Brahmins) to improve their social status. This includes changes in diet, worship, and lifestyle. Critical evaluation: While it explains social mobility, it has been criticized for ignoring structural inequalities, reinforcing caste hierarchy, and not challenging the caste system itself. It also overlooks other forms of mobility like Westernization and fails to account for resistance or alternative paths.

OR

Solution (Panchayati Raj): Panchayati Raj is a system of local self-government in rural India, established by the 73rd Constitutional Amendment (1992). It aims to decentralize power and promote grassroots democracy. Its three-stage system includes: (1) Gram Panchayat at the village level, (2) Panchayat Samiti at the block level, and (3) Zila Parishad at the district level. Each tier has elected representatives, with reservations for Scheduled Castes, Scheduled Tribes, and women, ensuring inclusive participation in local governance and development.

What is the impact of Globalization and Liberalization on the agricultural and rural society of India ? 6

OR

Which issues were highlighted during women's movement ? 6

Solution (Impact on agriculture and rural society): Globalization and liberalization (post-1991) had mixed impacts. Positive: increased market access, technology adoption, and higher crop yields for some. Negative: small farmers faced competition from imports, rising input costs, and debt, leading to agrarian distress and farmer suicides. Rural society saw migration to cities, erosion of traditional livelihoods, and widening inequality. Corporate farming and contract farming emerged, but many marginal farmers were marginalized.

OR

Solution (Women's movement issues): The women's movement in India highlighted issues such as: (1) gender-based violence (dowry deaths, domestic violence, rape), (2) legal rights (equal property rights, marriage laws), (3) reproductive rights and health, (4) workplace discrimination and equal pay, (5) political representation (demand for reservation), and (6) social issues like female infanticide, child marriage, and education. Write the causes of the disorganization of Joint family. 6

OR

Discuss the role of mass media in Indian society. 6

Solution (Causes of joint family disorganization): Key causes include: (1) urbanization and migration for jobs, (2) industrialization leading to nuclear family needs, (3) education and individualism, (4) economic independence of members, (5) legal reforms (e.g., property rights), (6) changing social values and aspirations, (7) conflicts over property and finances, and (8) influence of Western culture. These factors reduced the authority of elders and weakened the traditional joint family structure.

OR

Solution (Role of mass media): Mass media (TV, radio, newspapers, internet) plays a crucial role in Indian society by: (1) disseminating information and news, (2) educating the public on social issues (health, education, rights), (3) shaping public opinion and awareness, (4) promoting cultural exchange and entertainment, (5) acting as a watchdog for democracy, and (6) facilitating social change (e.g., gender equality, environmental awareness). However, it can also spread misinformation and reinforce stereotypes.
